Students with their own blog or the the ability to write on a class one would benefit from the talkr plug in because it is reasonable at rendering phonetically plausible spelling.

Teacher Text to Audio

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

A blog can be used by the teacher to write about whatever he or she wants. He can also link to other places that he would like his students to explore. If you were learning to read though, this might be a bit of a challenge.

The Talkr plugin automatically converts what I am writing into audio. The voice certainly does not sound like me but it would be quite empowering and reassuring for someone, who was struggling with reading, to visit this page because they can just click on ‘Listen to the Podcast’ and hear what is being communicated. They can also listen and follow the text.

It is clearly not perfect but useful. What I really like about this is that it is happening automatically and all I have to do as teacher is write something useful in the box
